Posted by | News Releases | No Comments

NEW YORK, April 17 – Syndicaster announced today that its video platform for television stations and newspapers has been selected as Best Publishing Technology Innovation by the Digiday Publishing Awards, which honors excellence and breakthrough achievement in digital media, marketing and advertising.

Now in use by about 30% of U.S. news-producing television affiliates and over 150 newspapers for real-time HD capture and creation of video clips, Syndicaster was selected after judging Digiday called “the fiercest competition to date.” Winners were announced in New York City during the Digiday Video Upfront conference.

“It’s gratifying that Digiday’s judges recognize the ongoing innovation Syndicaster has delivered to television stations – and now to newspapers determined to build upon their position as a trusted journalism brand,” said Sean Morgan, CEO of Critical Media, which operates Syndicaster.

“Since Syndicaster created the first cloud-based platform for broadcasters to publish their just-aired video assets to the web, we have enabled delivery to broadcasters’ mobile- and tablet-viewing audiences and placed content into revenue-generating syndication online, all within 60 seconds of airtime,” said Ion Puspurica, executive vice president of Critical Media and general manager of the company’s Media Services Group. “Digiday’s designation of Syndicaster as the top technology innovation in publishing affirms that these tools, and similar solutions allowing newspapers to post video coverage and broadcast live in HD, are indeed innovative and vital in the digital media sector.”

Syndicaster launches live HD streaming service with dynamic extraction of over-the-air commercials at NAB, unlocking new revenue stream for television stations

Posted by | News Releases | No Comments

LAS VEGAS, April 16 – Critical Media’s Syndicaster unit introduced today a live HD streaming solution for television stations to identify and extract over-the-air commercials in real-time, and replace them with geo-targeted digital ads for delivery to web, mobile devices and connected televisions.

The solution, being demonstrated at the National Association of Broadcasters’ 2012 NAB Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth #SU11707), has completed successful pilot implementation and it is currently under deployment across all Newport Television® stations. In addition, Critical Media will work with Inergize Digital®, the leader in fully integrated digital management solutions that generate revenue for local media companies on-air, online and on mobile devices, to integrate live video streaming with commercial insertion on News Synergy™, the industry’s leading mobile app that delivers locally branded content to Apple® iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad® and Google™ Android™ mobile digital devices.

“Extracting OTA commercials and replacing them with digital ads in a live streaming service has been a vexing problem for station owners,” said Sean Morgan, founder and CEO of Critical Mention, which operates Syndicaster. “To date, the live streaming of news programming has been a cost center for broadcasters. The new Syndicaster service now opens up an untapped marketplace for broadcasters to offer valuable and targeted rich media advertising opportunities to local merchants and businesses that would not typically advertise on TV.

Ion Puspurica, executive vice president of Critical Media and general manager of the company’s Media Services Group, indicated Syndicaster’s live ad-extraction approach was designed to solve two acute challenges for broadcasters:

  • Nielsen does not count live stream impressions, inhibiting stations’ ability to monetize OTA ads within live streams
  • Managing intellectual property rights as it pertains to the display of commercials outside their DMAs and other rights issues.

“Our patent-pending technology identifies the commercial break, dynamically removes the broadcast commercials and replaces them with geo-targeted web video ads,” said Puspurica, adding that the service is available in conjunction with an upgrade of the Syndicaster appliance to high definition.

Interested parties can schedule a private demonstration of the technology at NAB in Las Vegas, April 16-19, by registering.
