Syndicaster Announces Integration of Facebook API, Providing TV and Newspaper Clients One-Click Publishing of Video to Their Facebook Page

Posted by | News Releases | No Comments

Immediately available to all Syndicaster clients in their platform today

LAS VEGAS, April 7 — Syndicaster, the end-to-end video services platform licensed by more than 300 local TV affiliates and newspapers to manage video ingestion, cloud editing, tagging, publishing and monetization, today announced the immediate addition of Facebook to Syndicaster’s “super distribution engine.”

The announcement was made at NAB Show in Las Vegas, where broadcast executives are convening April 5-10 to immerse themselves in new technology solutions for their newsrooms.  Many of Syndicaster’s 300 subscribers are regular NAB attendees.

“TV and newspapers owners understand the need to get their content where their audiences are,” said Sean Morgan, founder and CEO of Critical Media, which operates Syndicaster.  “Content needs to seamlessly publish to a news outlets’ Web and mobile sites, apps, YouTube channels and more. The addition of Facebook to the Syndicaster ‘super distribution engine’ is just one of several new distribution points slated to be released over the next few months.

“We are excited to have over 25% of U.S. network affiliates on the Syndicaster platform. It is our job to bring together the best hardware for the aggregation of live TV and great apps for in-the-field capture with the best cloud platform for moderation and editing, and couple it with distribution and monetization of all of this great local content,” Morgan continued.

Rich Forsgren, chief technology officer for Erie Times-News, said simplifying the workflow involved in posting from-the-field video would lead to greater exposure and growth of GoErie’s Facebook page beyond its current base of 28,000.

“Video is central to our digital strategy, and our editorial team routinely produces 10 to 15 new video segments a day for visitors to GoErie.com, said Forsgren. “Syndicaster’s addition of Facebook as an additional video publishing destination means our content will reach an even bigger audience on Facebook, where the ease of social sharing will extend the reach of the GoErie and Erie Times-News brands.”

Syndicaster has scheduled a series of webinars for digital, editorial and newsroom operations personnel to demonstrate the new Facebook Publisher.  Register for a session here.

Syndicaster Uploader App Released At NAB Show; First Users Include 3,000+ Journalists, Editors and Video Operations Staff at Local News Outlets in More Than 100 U.S. Markets

Posted by | News Releases | No Comments

‘News Truck in Their Phone’ to Publish to Web, Mobile and Facebook

LAS VEGAS, April 7 – Syndicaster, the end-to-end video services platform licensed by more than 300 local TV affiliates and newspapers, today announced the release of the Syndicaster Uploader App to more than 3,000 journalists, editors and video operations staff at more than 300 local news outlets across more than 100 markets.

The app, available for iOS through the iTunes store and for Android through Google Play, was released in conjunction with NAB Show in Las Vegas, the media and entertainment technology event expected to draw 90,000+ attendees from 155 countries to Las Vegas, April 5-10.

“Broadcasters and newspaper publishers understand their online and mobile audiences are clamoring for more video, and there is significant advertising and subscription revenue available to those news outlets that get it right,” said Sean Morgan, founder and CEO of Critical Media, which operates Syndicaster. “We are excited to help our media clients increase the flow of local video news from the field by making it really easy and cost-free to enable all their journalists and feet-on-the-street staff with the ability to easily contribute in the news gathering process.”

The Syndicaster Uploader App, which may be downloaded at no charge, connects with the Syndicaster video editing, publishing and syndication workflow platform that’s now part of the newsroom workflow in 300+ TV stations and newspapers.

The app streamlines the in-field capture of breaking news, interviews with local businesses, politicians, athletes and local events like high school and college athletics, said Morgan. Content can range from short-form content as short as 5 seconds to full-length interviews of up to 15 minutes.

Lengthy time delays from capture to publishing are eliminated because the app uploads all video segments directly into the media properties’ Syndicaster account, where they can be reviewed, edited, titled, ad tagged, geo-coded, thumbnailed and immediately published to all channels – including Web, mobile & connected-TV apps. In addition, Syndicaster enables one-click migration to a media property’s Facebook page, YouTube channel and other third-party platforms.

“This is like having a news truck in your phone,” said Morgan, adding that the Syndicaster platform allows media properties to review all submissions prior to choosing to edit, title, tag and publish the segments.

Local News is poised for a massive expansion in the connected TV market, said Morgan.

“The consumer wants to see a truly expanded and truly local video news experience. Our newspaper and TV clients may also enable their partners with the app. These could include the staff at high school and college newspapers in a publisher’s area, event owners, sports teams, politicians and municipalities and much more,” Morgan said.

Kerry Oslund,  corporate vice president of digital media for Schurz Communications, said local news organizations gain competitive advantage through tools that make it easier to quickly aggregate and publish news video from the field.

“Everyone on our team carries a smart phone, so any app that can streamline the process of getting video into our newsroom and in front of our viewers is a welcome addition,” said Oslund.  “We look forward to trying this out.”

The Syndicaster Uploader App is included with every Syndicaster account.

A series of webinars has been scheduled for April and May to provide a forum for newsroom management and members of the editorial teams at participating media outlets to see the Syndicaster Uploader App in use and to ready for local implementation.   Register for a session here.

The system allows for the capture and creation of real-time, high definition video clips, enabling delivery to online, mobile and tablet-viewing audiences within 60 seconds of airtime and placing content into revenue-generating syndication online. Entravision’s TV news digital production has grown ten-fold in the last three years and has produced more than 100,000 unique online local news videos in partnership with Syndicaster during that time.

The team managing Entravision’s radio properties are now using Syndicaster™ to curate, edit, title, tag and publish relevant video news segments from sister television properties. In addition, on-air personalities from Entravision radio stations are increasingly capturing in-studio events and interviews previously available only in audio.

“Radio has some of the best local news and interviews of any media, but much of this content has been vanishing into thin air. We’re changing that,” continued Puspurica. “Using Syndicaster, radio stations can now create and
monetize video content online. This provides radio stations the same opportunities enjoyed by both TV broadcasters and video-producing newspapers.”

Posted by | News Releases | No Comments

NEW YORK, April 17 – Syndicaster announced today that its video platform for television stations and newspapers has been selected as Best Publishing Technology Innovation by the Digiday Publishing Awards, which honors excellence and breakthrough achievement in digital media, marketing and advertising.

Now in use by about 30% of U.S. news-producing television affiliates and over 150 newspapers for real-time HD capture and creation of video clips, Syndicaster was selected after judging Digiday called “the fiercest competition to date.” Winners were announced in New York City during the Digiday Video Upfront conference.

“It’s gratifying that Digiday’s judges recognize the ongoing innovation Syndicaster has delivered to television stations – and now to newspapers determined to build upon their position as a trusted journalism brand,” said Sean Morgan, CEO of Critical Media, which operates Syndicaster.

“Since Syndicaster created the first cloud-based platform for broadcasters to publish their just-aired video assets to the web, we have enabled delivery to broadcasters’ mobile- and tablet-viewing audiences and placed content into revenue-generating syndication online, all within 60 seconds of airtime,” said Ion Puspurica, executive vice president of Critical Media and general manager of the company’s Media Services Group. “Digiday’s designation of Syndicaster as the top technology innovation in publishing affirms that these tools, and similar solutions allowing newspapers to post video coverage and broadcast live in HD, are indeed innovative and vital in the digital media sector.”
